My Love of Reading

I am still reading “Get off your Knees and Pray”  and I love it just taking me a while.  I have been super busy.  I am really still reading all the same books I was a few weeks ago.  I will let you know next week because I have told myself I am going to be reading at least an hour a night no matter what.

Please hold me to it!

WHat’s Up?Weights up!

lost-weight.jpgInstead of loosing weight I am gaining weight.  I am not sure what is going on.  I want to cry.  We got a trampoline and I am hoping that will help and I am going to be buying a bike in the next few days.

I am going to really start watching my portions.  And stop snacking on all those chips, junk food, and bad stuff for me.

How to Start a Vegetable Garden

Why should you start a vegetable garden? While growing your own vegetables may seem like a lot of work, there’s nothing like biting into a nice ripe tomato and thinking “I grew this myself”. Gardening provides a great workout with proven stress relief, along with beautiful and tasty vegetables. So the real question is “why haven’t you started your vegetable garden already?”

The first thing you need to do when starting a vegetable garden is to find a spot and prepare it. Most veggies need lots of sun to grow; so pick a spot that gets sun most of the day. You should then tear up the soil to make it loose. This way you will be able to plant your vegetables and their roots will be able to grow. It’s almost impossible for little plants to break through compact soil. You can then put organic material in your soil by adding compost or manure. If you don’t have this on hand, you can go pick something up at your local gardening store.

The next thing you need to do is to pick out what plants you want to grow. Of course pick your family’s favorite vegetables first; you don’t want a bunch of food sitting around that no one wants. Just make sure that the vegetables you want will grow properly where you live. You also want to pick varieties you have the time and space to take care of. It’s no fun to do all that work and come out with half-rate vegetables.

Once you have your garden prepared and you know what you want to grow, plan the actual layout of your garden. The best way to do this is to get out a sheet of paper and draw your garden. Some plants can grow pretty close together, while others need to be spread out so they won’t have competition. Draw where you want to put each crop so you know you have enough room for everything.

Now that you have your spot picked out and you know exactly what to get, it’s time to go to the store and buy your plants or seeds. Just remember if you’re buying seeds that some will not germinate so you’ll want to buy extra. Good luck and happy planting!

School Is Almost Out For the Summer

Schools Out - Perfect Teen Summer
School is almost out for the summer.  I have so much to do before school gets out.

I have to tweak my work schedule so that I can spend more time with the kids during the day.  I have to make a different meal schedule because right now my menu planning does not include anything for lunches during the week.

I also do some schooling during the summer to keep the kids sharp all year long.  And I have not even got my workbooks for this summer yet.  And I have to plan schedules for what we are going to do all summer plus where and when we are going on a family vacation.

But most important.  What is M (15 this year) going to do all summer.  There is no way I am going to let her lay around all summer long.  I started doing some searching on the internet seeing what I could come up with to do with M.  And Aurelia has this great report “Schools Out, Plans for the Perfect Teen Summer.”  Want to know more about it.  CLick the image above and you will get all the info you need.  I have to tell you Aurelia did it again and has saved the summer with me and my teenager.

A very close friend of mine Cara from The Household Helper is raising money for an awesome reason please read below and go to Cara’s site to learn more.

March of Dimes

The March of Dimes champions the needs of moms and babies in our community and across the nation. The money raised for March for Babies event will support lifesaving research, services, education and advocacy that help babies get a healthy start.

A Cause Near and Dear To My Heart

My son Joey was born 12 weeks premature due to a placental abruption, a result of preeclampsia. He weighed just 2 pounds 9 ounces and was only 14 inches long (see picture in the left sidebar). While in the NICU, one of the nurses passed on some literature from The March of Dimes. From that day on, I knew I would champion this organization anyway I could.

Help I Don’t Understand My Teen

Understanding Your Teen

You know growing up I do not reember my life being difficult.  Although as a teenager it probley seems more difficult then it really is.  Some Days My daughter is in the best mood in the world and other days she is in a bad mood.  It is a total roller coaster.  I know, I know she is only 15 years old but wow.  I wish I understood her more.  I wish I knew just waht to say and just how to help her through this difficult time.

We had a major break down this weekend.  Her boyfriend who I never approved of but never told her that.  I always was very nice to him and we always totally accepted him.   Well he broke my daughters heart.  He made her cry.    He broke up with her and then says he wants to be friends lol…..

My daughter did such a good thing.  She told him that he could call her in a year and then maybe she can be friends with him.  But even at that I just don’t always understand her.

I went searching for help on understanding her.  I want us to be able to communicate.  And I finally found some help.  Real Life Guidance has created the prefect product called “Understanding Your Teen.”  You have to check it out.  Click on the image above to learn more.

Monday Menu Planning

How to Live Stress-Free By Saying “No”

Getting Out Of the SuperMom Trap

We all know the adage, “A mother’s work is never done.” In fact, this could become a modern-day mother’s theme song since we all have overbooked schedules and everybody wants something done yesterday.

We teach our children from a young age that it is impolite to say the word, “No,” which was a lesson we learned in childhood, too. Now as adults, it is increasingly difficult to say, “No,” to anyone for fear of being rude or being seen as unreliable.
Mothers need to learn that saying, “No,” as an adult is not rude. Rather, it is a sign of someone who is in control of her life and her schedule. She knows what she is capable of accomplishing and she is aware of her other commitments.

Here are a few ways to gain back control of your life, simply by learning how to say, “No”:

1. Be selective when choosing to volunteer your time. Being involved in your child’s school IS important but that does not mean you have to serve on every committee. Instead, choose one or two activities or committees that interest you and schedule that time on your planner.

2. Set limits on after-school activities. Sports teams or dance lessons are fun and help improve social skills but that does not mean your children have to be on a different team each season or take multiple lessons a week. Instead, teach your children how to choose activities that are most important to them and keep their focus on their studies.

3. Set boundaries with your clients. Your clients should not run your life. Instead, you should have a clear, working partnership in which each partner knows what is expected.

If you can still give your clients good customer service during set office hours, then do so. Chances are they would not want you calling during their family time so why should they interrupt during your family time?

4. Be honest about your skills. If you are not qualified to complete a particular project, whether it is a paid or volunteer project, be honest with your client and recommend someone with the right qualifications. Passing the job along to someone else who is qualified will show that you are in control of your schedule, you are honest about your skill level and you value the importance of the project by giving it to someone who can complete it properly.

5. Keep your calendar or planner up to date and use it. Schedule everything on one calendar, even exercise and family time, and keep it near the phone for easy reference when someone calls asking for a favor.

Bad habits are hard to break and saying, “Yes,” to too many things can be considered a bad habit. Before committing to anything, spend some quiet time with yourself and decide what things you want to be a part of and how much time you have in your days. Sometimes we must compromise so we can successfully balance our family, work and volunteer lives.
